What You’ll Make
Learn how to transform foraged dried mullein flower stalks into powerful traditional torches using pure beeswax, dried flowers and herbs.
Create a set of your own beeswax-dipped mullein candles. Decorate your torches with dried flowers, herbs and botanical materials. Each mullein torch unique and full of personality.
A wonderfully tactile process — part candle making, part botanical craft and part beeswax alchemy.
Leave with your own personal collection of beeswax-dipped creations ready for Samhain.
Join us at The Wild Bee Company in Dorking, Surrey, for a magical, hands-on mullein candle making workshop with expert beeswax chandler Moni. Set against the backdrop of our funky, colourful Wax Atelier, which coincidently sits above our honey and wax processing workshop! We keep our group small so expect personalised guidance and plenty of space to let your creativity shine.
WHAT IS A MULLEIN WITCH'S TORCH?
For centuries, the sacred mullein plant has been associated with fire, healing, illumination and protection. Its tall, candle-like flower stalks have inspired traditional names including Witch's Torch, Hag's Taper, Candlewick Plant, Aaron's Rod and Jupiter's Staff.
Long before modern candles and electric lights, mullein stalks could be transformed into natural torches by coating them in wax. Commonly used for ceremonies and processions, they have long been connected to the spirit realm.
At Samhain, when the boundary between the seasons, the symbolism of fire, light and protection makes the mullein torch a particularly magical craft.
We'll dip and dress our own mullein torches in beeswax, embellishing using herbs, flowers and botanicals to create something completely personal, each one completely unique.

About your host!
My name is Moni - I am an artist, apiarist and alchemist based in Surrey. I am experienced beeswax chandler, bringing my knowledge of traditional candle making, beeswax, foraging and natural materials to the workshop. My work is deeply inspired by bees, plants, natural materials and the alchemy of the hive.

What to Wear:
Please come in comfortable attire. Anything you won't mind getting a little messy. Aprons are available.
What we will provide:
All materials are provided to craft your mullein torches. No experience necessary.
Please feel free to bring an additional embellishments/charms/dried flowers that you would like add to your torches.
Food + Drink
Help yourself to ‘unlimited’ tea and cake throughout the day! (IMPORTANT - Please let me know of any dietary requirements beforehand)
Terms and Conditions
We have high demand for our courses and put a lot of effort into preparation. If you are unable to attend the course after booking, get in touch with us at least 3 weeks in advance. I will try to move you to another date where possible.
Cancellations & Transfers
- More than 14 days’ notice: free transfer to another date (subject to availability)
- Less than 14 days’ notice: 25% of course fee applies
- Less than 7 days’ notice: 50% course fee applies
Non-Attendance
- If you do not attend your booked workshop, no refunds or transfers will be given, regardless of reason.
